Professional Registration

The General Dental Council (GDC) is the regulatory body of the dental profession in the United Kingdom. Our dentists and staff adhere to the rules governing the profession by the GDC as set out in their publication "Standards for Dental Professionals". David de Klerk

David qualified in 1985 from Wits University, South Africa. He has gained a wealth of experience working in a variety of practices in the UK and abroad. David who along with Jon Taylor his business partner had been a Principal at Orchard Lane Dental Practice since 2002 before taking over the lead role at Merrifield Dental Practice in 2008. They also own Brookvale Dental Practice in Honiton.

David shares his life with his wife, Claire, their two children and a Springer spaniel. A keen sportsman, David can be found trying to beat his son at golf on a weekend!

David recently has returned form the Gai region of Kenya where he spent several weeks with the Somerset based Charity Akamba Aid Fund website www.akambaaidfund.org. David's objective was threefold, to examine and treat as many patients as possible in the time available, this was especially rewarding as most patients had all previous dental procedures carried out with little or no local anaesthetic. While nobody enjoys having teeth extracted, having the treatment pain free is a huge bonus. Hopefully David will be travelling to Gia again this year to see how the charity is faring.

Wendy Dods

Hygienist

Wendy has been working in the field of dentistry since 1980 and qualified with distinction as a dental hygienist from the Eastman Dental Hospital in 2002 and winning the Nugent Cup. Married, with two daughters, Wendy lives with her husband, Michael, and her interests include walking her English springer spaniel, reading, wine and music.

Trudi Dorman

RDN/Receptionist

Trudi was born in Sidmouth and has lived here all her life. She worked locally in banking for seventeen years before deciding she wanted a new challenge. She joined Merrifield Dental Practice in Jan 2007 as a trainee dental nurse and has now completed her training and passed the qualification to become a registered dental nurse.

Trudi is married, with two children and plays skittles for the local football club.

Anne Hillman

Receptionist

Anne is a people person and has worked as a dental nurse for seven years. On moving to Merrifield Dental Practice, Anne had the chance to work as a receptionist. This has given her the opportunity to meet and greet all the patients, making it a relaxed and friendly environment for them to come in to.

Anne has lived and worked in the Sidmouth area for many years and her outgoing personality and willingness to help has made her well-known and respected by the many people in the community who know her.

Frances Swallow

Dental Nurse

Frances is married to Martin and has a grown up family. She has enjoyed a varied career in dental nursing over the years, in both the Private and NHS sector as well as Community Dental Services. All of which she found rewarding. This has enabled her to use this experience to good effect at Merrifield. She has many diverse interests from Latin American dancing to running a Girl Guide company in Exmouth. She is keen on complimentary therapies and travelling and is a qualified Reflexologist.
