Care Coordination in Dentistry
The role of Care Coordinator is increasingly popular in practices across the UK and has been warmly received by patients who, as a direct result of working with a Care Coordinator, have been enabled to make more informed decisions about their oral well being.
Over recent years the General Dental Council (the dental profession’s governing body) has placed an increased emphasis on team work. The establishment of qualifications such as Care Coordinator has enabled dental nurses to become more active in certain aspects of patient care and enhance the standard of care delivered to patients.
Care Coordination at Stevenage Orthodontics
Stevenage Orthodontics now employs Orthodontic Care Coordinators. The role of these highly trained and competent team members is to support patients in their journey through treatment at our practice.
The entire team work together to provide a comprehensive service that recognizes and values patient needs and concerns. When you attend for your initial or subsequent appointments, the Orthodontic Care Coordinator, in line with the orthodontist’s instructions, uses an advanced computerised animation package and other visual aids to demonstrate how you progress through your treatment. At this point you will be able to ask questions, or raise your concerns with the Care Coordinator before then also speaking directly with the orthodontist.
Orthodontic care coordination enhances and supplements direct communication with the orthodontist. Experience has shown that after working through the Care Coordination process, most patients tell us they are better able to understand complicated orthodontic procedures diagnosed by their orthodontist.
